Pupil Personnel Services

Within the Eastchester School District’s special education department we are committed to meeting the needs of all of our classified students. We offer a full continuum of programs and services to meet the individual needs and developed goals of our students with disabilities in accordance with their Individualized Education Plan (IEP).

All of our support and services provided are delivered by NY State certified special education teachers, speech/language therapists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, school psychologists, and school counselors.

Special Education services are available for students with disabilities between the ages of 3 and 21, or until they receive a high school diploma. We pride ourselves on working closely with families, students and teachers to meet the needs of our students and to provide support to them within the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE). We encourage you to reach out to any individual in our department if you have any questions regarding your child’s IEP or special education supports and services.

Continuum of Services

The Eastchester School District offers a full continuum of services at all levels/grades. Students with disabilities shall be provided special education in the least restrictive environment, as defined in Part 200 Regulations. Specially designed instruction and supplementary services may be provided in a general education class as well as integrated co-teaching services, consultant teaching services, resource room and special class program at all levels, K-12.

An Integrated co-teaching model consists of a special education and general education teacher working together to support students in a general education class to meet the needs of a classified student.
Consultant Teacher Service (CTS) can be either “direct” or “indirect”. Direct CTS is when a special education teacher works directly with a student on a specific goal. In-Direct CTS is where the special education teacher consults with the general education teacher and offers the teacher support in meeting the student’s individualized needs.
Resource room is a support class where students attend daily to work with a special education teacher on skill development. Resource room teachers may potentially work on organizational, and study skills as well.
Special Class Programs are designed for students with a greater need for support in all areas including academics, behavior and management. The class is designed with a smaller student to teacher ratio focused on supporting a student's individual needs.
